Our client is the largest primary health care provider, delivering direct healthcare services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in the Pilbara area. They have supported local families with a fully functional and accredited Clinic that treats approximately 3,000 people per year.

The is a newly created position which is both interesting and very important. The position of the Project Specialist focused on Tackling Indigenous Smoking, is to undertake activities aimed at reducing smoking levels and supporting smokers to quit within their service area and community.
Activities will include:
- Developing a comprehensive understanding of the profile of smoking within the community, the impacts of smoking, influencing factors on behaviour, and prevention and quitting issues within our service area
- Collecting evidence to better understand motivations for smoking and quitting with community members (learn why, where, when and what)
- Use the evidence collected to plan and implement community programs that educate and support smoking reduction and quitting smoking
- Undertake brief interventions that lead to smoking reduction and cessation
- Referring clients to formal cessation programs (within their clinic / externally) and deliver smoking cessation and support programs
- Work collaboratively with your team members to make a positive difference to the smoking profile of the community
- Work in partnership with other organisations to assist and promote smoking reduction and quit smoking
- Undertake induction and other training to develop the knowledge to perform this role at the highest level
- Brief interventions and positive care through community and support groups
- Education activities, inclusive of social and media campaigns
- Building relationships with children and adolescents as well as adults to engage them in the program
The Benefits:
- Base Salary $93K – $96K + super / Hourly Rate $48ph + super
- $13,000 Housing Allowance or possibly subsidised housing
- 11.5% Superannuation

- $1,000 Electricity Allowance (Oct-Feb)
- $1,000 Annual Airfare Allowance (after 12 months continuous employment)
- $3,055 District Allowance (single) or $6,111 (couple/family)
- 4 weeks annual leave
- 17.5% leave loading worth $1,260
- 1 weeks Northwest Leave
Essential Criteria:
- Must have worked in a similar type of program being delivered into an indigenous community
- Must be based in the Karratha area or willing to RELOCATE
- Be happy to travel out to community and build relationships / understanding at grass roots level
- Experience working with children and adolescents
