Job Title: Aboriginal Health Worker
Location: Metro/ Regional Western Australia
Position Type: Full-time / Part-time
Salary: 70K to 90K per year
About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Aboriginal Health Worker. The Aboriginal Health Worker plays a key role in improving the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities by providing culturally appropriate care, support, and advocacy. You will work closely with individuals, families, and communities to address health issues and promote healthier lifestyles, ensuring a holistic approach to health that respects cultural values and traditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide culturally safe health services and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and communities.
- Conduct health assessments, and screenings, and provide advice on managing chronic conditions.
- Work collaboratively with healthcare providers, social services, and community organizations to improve health outcomes.
- Assist in developing and implementing health programs focused on disease prevention, health education, and well-being.
- Advocate for and support clients in accessing appropriate healthcare services.
- Provide emotional, social, and cultural support to clients and their families.
- Participate in community health initiatives and events.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality and privacy of client information.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (or equivalent) is preferred, or willingness to obtain.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, health needs, and social determinants of health.
- Experience in providing health-related support and education in Aboriginal communities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and learning.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- A valid driver’s license and access to reliable transport.
