Our Client:

This is a wonderful opportunity to join WA’s largest primary health care provider who deliver direct services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in the Karratha area. They provide families in the surrounding area with a fully functional and accredited Clinic that treats approximately 3,000 people per year.

The Exciting Opportunity:

We are looking to fill 2 SEWB Counselling positions (Social & Emotional Wellbeing).

One position is permanent full time and the other position is a 12-month maternity contract with a high possibility of being extended to a permanent position thereafter.

The Men and Women’s health programs aim to strengthen social and emotional wellbeing wherever possible by providing counselling and/or other supports for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The program will support strong, healthy and resilient individuals, families and communities which in turn may enhance pathways to education and employment and reduce substance abuse, violence and contact with the criminal justice system.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide counselling assistance to deliver the Men’s Health Counselling Program and another counsellor is required to deliver the Women’s Health Counselling Program
  • Provide appropriate and timely assessments based on client needs and provide counselling according to the assessment
  • Provide link-up services to clients and provide support and assistance to clients where required
  • Participate in case conferencing and undertake all responsibilities as per the care plan of clients
  • Refer clients appropriately to other services within the same organisation and external health providers
  • Provide other support when connecting to external agencies inclusive of assistance with applications and forms
  • Provide clients with information about the services they are being referred to and provide support as necessary to clients attending other services
  • Follow-up clients on a regular basis – initiative client contact where appropriate and necessary
  • Provide support and assistance to clients in their own environment & work effectively and appropriately with families
  • Undertake group education and community activities as required by the funding agreement
  • Going out into community and building relationships to generate more referrals for the counselling services
  • Identify appropriate target audiences, based on evidence and direction from management
  • Develop program materials based on evidence (with support from subject matter experts)
  • Ensure program material is reviewed, following relevant Policy prior to presentation
  • Record group education within Communicare as directed by management

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or equivalent
  • Experience of working with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders treating substance misuse issues and a clear understanding of the need for and ability to deliver quality services
  • Demonstrated counselling and crisis intervention skills
  • Experience in delivering evidence based psychosocial interventions on both a group and one-to-one basis
  • Ability to facilitate community therapeutic groups and educational groups
  • Must have a full WA Drivers Licence
  • Prepared to undertake WWC and National Police Clearance

  • Base Salary $90k-$94k + super
  • 11.5% Superannuation
  • Up to $18,000 Salary Sacrifice and entertainment benefits which means approx $6k extra in your take home pay annually
  • $1,000 Electricity Allowance (Oct-Feb)
  • $1,000 Annual Airfare Allowance (after 12 months continuous employment)
  • 4 weeks annual leave
  • 17.5% leave loading worth $1,260
  • 1 weeks Northwest Leave
