Our Client:

This is a wonderful opportunity to join WA’s largest primary health care provider who deliver direct services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in the Karratha & Roebourne area. They are a Community Controlled Organisation and are also a NDIS service provider and community program provider.

They are managed by the local Aboriginal community, where they are responsible to deliver holistic, comprehensive, and culturally appropriate health and disability care to communities in the Pilbara. Their services are delivered through physical locations, mobile outreach and online/telehealth modes.

The Exciting Opportunity:

The Suicide Prevention Aftercare Officer is part of the large Programs Team which delivers essential support services to individuals and families in community. Suicide Aftercare is a proactive service that is designed and delivered to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people following a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis. The Aftercare Officer provides a safe environment, with culturally-appropriate care coordination, and support and linkages with different aspects of treatment or response so support the individual in crisis.

By fostering a trauma-aware and healing-informed environment, they aim to provide individuals receiving and delivering services and support with the care they need and want after someone has already attempted suicide. This is a sensitive and delicate program which affects both younger and older individuals. It is an important step toward significantly reducing and sustaining the reduction of the impact of suicidal thoughts and behaviours of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Responsibilities include:

  • Connecting with community and going out to meet individuals who are in need to support after a suicide attempt
  • Building relationships and networks in the Roebourne area – build and maintain strong referral pathways, including but not limited to the following services: acute care services, primary care services, schools, police, funeral services, Alcohol and Other Drug Services, mainstream and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led mental health services
  • Contribute to a localised service delivery model for suicide aftercare services through a co-design approach with local Community, using NACCHO’s National Model of Care, and other resources, as a framework
  • Provide aftercare services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals who have been referred following a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis in line with agreed service delivery model
  • Participate in the Aftercare Services Community of Practice, established to support ACCHOs in setting up and maintaining Aftercare Services, and facilitate sharing of best practice and expertise
  • Undertake reporting on aftercare activities in line with contract requirements including ensuring appropriate data collection
  • Maintain client confidentiality

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or equivalent training and/or experience
  • Mental Health qualifications and/or experience such as Counsellor, Case Worker, Social Worker
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
  • COVID-19 Vaccinated (triple vax as per the WA Government mandate for all health care workers).
  • National Police Check
  • Working with Children Check
  • Client focused with an ability to advocate on the client’s behalf
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in computer software including electronic medical software and the Microsoft Office suite

What you can expect in return:

  • Base Salary $90k-$95k + super
  • 11.5% Superannuation
  • Up to $18,000 Salary Sacrifice and entertainment benefits which means approx $6k extra in your take home pay annually
  • $1,000 Electricity Allowance (Oct-Feb)
  • $1,000 Annual Airfare Allowance (after 12 months continuous employment)
  • 4 weeks annual leave
  • 17.5% leave loading worth $1,260
  • 1 weeks Northwest Leave
