About the Company
Our client is a well-established not-for-profit community organisation delivering culturally safe, youth-focused mental health and wellbeing services across Queensland. With a strong commitment to early intervention, inclusion and community-led practice, the organisation supports young people aged 12-25 experiencing mental health, social, emotional, alcohol and other drug, and vocational challenges.
The service works alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, families and communities to strengthen social and emotional wellbeing through culturally responsive, person-centred care.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander-identified Social Worker to provide culturally safe mental health and wellbeing support to First Nations young people experiencing mild to moderate social and emotional wellbeing challenges.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver holistic counselling, case management and care coordination, while also supporting early intervention, advocacy and community engagement initiatives. This role is well suited to a social worker who values strengths-based, trauma-informed and youth-centred practice.
Key Responsibilities Include:

Conducting culturally safe psychosocial assessments and developing individualised wellbeing and support plans

Providing individual counselling and group-based interventions using trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approaches

Delivering case management and care coordination across mental health, AOD, education, housing and community services

Advocating for young people and families within complex service systems

Delivering family-inclusive practice that centres the voice, choice and self-determination of young people

Supporting community engagement, early intervention and mental health promotion initiatives for First Nations communities

Building strong relationships with community organisations, Elders and external service providers

Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation and records

What We’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:

To perform this role, it is essential that the successful applicant is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act QLD 1991 (essential requirement)

Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent qualification

Eligibility for or current membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

Experience providing counselling, case management and psychosocial support to young people and/or families

Strong understanding of First Nations social, emotional and cultural wellbeing
-
Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

A trauma-informed, recovery-oriented and culturally responsive practice approach
-
Strong communication, advocacy and relationship-building skills
-
Current QLD C Class Driver Licence
