The Position:
Our client is seeking an enthusiastic Behaviour Support Practitioner to join their dynamic team. In this role you need to use a problem-solving approach and work alongside the multidisciplinary team during times of changes in participants’ behaviours to identify potential causes and develop person-centred solutions that are sustainable over time.
Responsibilities will include:
- Assessment: Conduct detailed assessments, such as FBAs, to understand the functions and triggers of behaviours of concern.
- Plan Development: Create comprehensive & interim person-centred Behaviour Support Plans, that outline proactive strategies, environmental modifications, and skill-building activities.
- Skill Building: Teach and coach individuals new skills, such as communication, social skills, and emotional regulation, to replace challenging behaviours.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the individual, their family, support workers, and other professionals to develop a consistent and effective support system.
- Training & Guidance: Provide training and ongoing guidance to families and support teams to ensure consistent implementation of the support plan.
- Monitoring & Review: Continuously monitor the individual’s progress and regularly review the plan to ensure it remains relevant and effective.
- Restrictive Practice Reduction: Support the safe reduction of restrictive practices, if used, in line with NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) requirements and legislative guidelines.
- Developing meaningful goals and practical strategies: as per the positive behaviour support framework, with a commitment to eliminate restrictive practices and reduce challenging behaviours, in the home and community.
What we are looking for:
- NDIS registration as a Behaviour Support Practitioner at Suitable, Core, Proficient or Advanced level under the Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework
- Relevant tertiary degree or qualification in human services
- Knowledge of relevant NDIS legislation, policies and procedures impacting the delivery of services to people with a disability
- Strong knowledge of PBS principles, behaviour assessment, and intervention techniques – comprehensive & interim reports, conducting FBA’s and working with Restrictive Practices
- Current licence and access to own transport with insurance
- Relevant clearances and certificates to work in the NDIS field such as NDIS Workers Screening, WWCC and National Police Clearance
