Pit technician

Our client is a well-established Australian gold producer with multiple operating assets across Western Australia. With a strong focus on operational performance, growth, and long-term mine development, the business continues to invest in its people and projects across both underground and open pit operations.

Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, the Open Pit Technician will support the geology team in the development and production of open pit mining operations. This role involves hands-on field work and close collaboration with operational teams to support safe, efficient, and productive mining activities.

This position is offered on an 8:6 roster with a combination of day and night shifts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct daily pit supervision to monitor ore extraction and collect geological data safely and efficiently
  • Allocate appropriate ore classification to high-grade and low-grade material
  • Assist with mark out of ore and waste blocks
  • Support Blast Movement Monitoring (BMM) installation and pickups
  • Analyse and record geological data using relevant software and tools
  • Monitor and report on ore quality and grade control activities
  • Support site safety and environmental compliance initiatives
  • Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and operational teams to optimise mining activities
  • Maintain accurate and detailed geological records and documentation

About you:

  • Previous experience in open pit mining and geology-related activities
  • Strong understanding of geological mapping and sampling techniques
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills
  • High attention to detail with excellent record-keeping capability
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Current WA Manual Driver’s Licence
  • Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) qualification highly regarded
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments and varying weather conditions
