Counsellor
Counsellor – Community & Mental Health Services
Location: Tennant Creek, NT
Job Type: Full-time (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm)
Salary: $101,791 plus superannuation + Salary Packaging
Accommodation: $195 per week Salary packaging option up to $15,900 per annum (plus additional $2,650 meal and entertainment option)
Leave: Six weeks annual leave (plus leave loading) + two weeks of personal leave

The Role
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Counsellor to provide responsive, therapeutic support to individuals, couples and families in Tennant Creek. You’ll deliver trauma-informed, evidence-based counselling and group programs that empower people to overcome challenges and build stronger, healthier relationships.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing individual counselling to adults, children and families using best-practice therapeutic approaches
- Delivering group programs designed to strengthen relationships, enhance emotional wellbeing, and reduce risk
- Supporting clients to improve communication, resilience, parenting and decision-making skills
- Applying trauma-informed, child-centred methodologies including play-based therapy
- Maintaining professional, accurate records, and contributing to service evaluation and continuous improvement
- Building and maintaining strong partnerships with local stakeholders such as schools and community organisations
- Participating in regular clinical supervision, team reflection and case review sessions
What We’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
- A relevant qualification in Counselling, Psychology, or Social Work (essential)
- Membership or eligibility for membership with a relevant professional body such as PACFA, AASW, or ACA
- Demonstrated experience in delivering counselling services across a range of age groups, including children
- Confidence using evidence-based therapeutic models, including family therapy and trauma-informed care
- Experience facilitating group programs
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work sensitively in cross-cultural settings
- A commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality and safeguarding children
Additional requirements:
- Current NT Driver Licence and Ochre Card (Working with Children Clearance)
- Ability to pass a satisfactory National Police Check
- Compliance with COVID-19 vaccination requirements
- Willingness to work occasional after-hours sessions (time-in-lieu provided)
