Trauma Counsellor – Community Services
Location: North Queensland (relocation assistance paid for)
Job Type: Full-time (preferred) or 4 days/week – flexible arrangements can be negotiated.
Salary: SCHCADS Level 6.1 + salary packaging + super

The Role
An opportunity is available for an experienced Counsellor, Social Worker or Psychologist to join a supportive team in a specialist practice setting.
In this role, you will provide trauma-informed counselling and case management to children, young people, and adults experiencing the impacts of trauma. You will work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to holistic, client-centred care.
The position also offers the opportunity to be involved in broader service initiatives, including community engagement and preventative programs.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Delivering trauma-informed counselling and therapeutic support
- Providing case management and coordinating care for clients with complex needs
- Supporting children, young people, and adults using a client-centred approach
- Assisting clients to navigate health, legal, and community service systems
- Maintaining accurate and compliant documentation and case records
- Collaborating with internal teams and external service providers
- Contributing to community engagement and preventative initiatives

What We’re Looking For
- Tertiary qualification (minimum Bachelor’s degree) in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or related field
- Demonstrated experience providing trauma-informed counselling
- Experience working with individuals experiencing complex needs and trauma
- Strong understanding of therapeutic frameworks and crisis intervention
- Ability to engage with diverse communities in a culturally responsive manner
- Sound knowledge of ethical practice and relevant legislation
- Strong communication, organisational, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work both autonomously and within a team
Essential Requirements
- Eligibility for membership with a relevant professional association
- Current driver’s licence
- Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain)
