The Role
We are currently recruiting for a Barber / Counsellor to join a multidisciplinary team based in Oakey.
This unique and rewarding role combines counselling with community engagement through barbering services, creating a welcoming environment where clients feel comfortable accessing support and building trusted relationships. You’ll play an important role in delivering culturally appropriate care while contributing to improved health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Counsellor who is willing to undertake barbering training while making a genuine difference through community connection and holistic care.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Provide counselling and wellbeing support in a culturally safe environment.
- Deliver or assist with barbering services following completion of barbering training.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with clients and encourage engagement with health services.
- Support clients through informal and structured wellbeing conversations and appropriate referrals.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to promote holistic care.
- Assist in delivering health promotion and community engagement initiatives.
- Uphold client confidentiality and maintain accurate documentation where required.

- Qualified Counsellor with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to undertake and complete a Barbering Course.

- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to culturally safe and client-centred service delivery.
- Reliable, organised, and proactive work ethic.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant counselling or social work qualifications.
- Willingness to study and complete a Barbering Course.
- Current Blue Card (or ability to obtain).
- Current National Police Check (or ability to obtain).
