Lead Mine Planning Engineer

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Lead Mine Planning Engineer to join a well-established underground mining operation in regional New South Wales. This is a key technical leadership position, offering the chance to shape mine planning strategy, mentor a team of engineers, and influence the long-term success of a complex underground operation.

The Role
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will lead the mine planning function and work closely with operations, geology and geotechnical teams to deliver safe, practical and value-driven mine plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of short, medium and long-term mine plans.
- Coordinate life-of-mine planning activities and mine design optimisation.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and support to Mine Planning Engineers.
- Drive continuous improvement across mine planning processes and standards.
- Ensure mine plans align with site safety standards, ground control requirements and relevant NSW legislation.
- Work collaboratively with operational and technical teams to deliver integrated planning outcomes.
- Identify opportunities to improve mine productivity, resource recovery and operational performance.
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and long-term strategic planning.
- Champion a strong safety culture and proactive risk management.
About You
You are an experienced underground mining engineer with a passion for technical excellence and developing others.
Essential:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Engineering).
- Minimum 5 years’ underground mining experience.
- Strong hard rock underground mine planning experience.
- Proven experience developing short, medium and long-term mine plans.
- Sound understanding of underground mine design principles.
- Knowledge of NSW mining legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Highly Regarded:
- Experience in remnant mining environments.
- Previous leadership or mentoring experience.
- Exposure to strategic mine planning and optimisation studies.
- Experience with industry-standard mine planning software.
- A continuous improvement mindset.
